Study of parental support in relation to functional skills level in special and integrated schools set ups among students with mild intellectual disability in the state of Haryana

Abstract: The present study was undertaken to know the parental support in relation to functional skills level in special and integrated schools among students with mild intellectual disabilities in the state of the Haryana. FSS-NIMH, FACP-NIMH checklists were used to assess the total family support and functional skills level respectively. The study was carried out on the sample of 400 children with mild intellectual disability including 104 males and 96 females from special schools and 103 males and 97 females from integrated schools of Haryana. The arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Mann Whitney test and Pearson’s correlation of coefficient were computed. The findings of study indicated no significant difference found in total family support among male and female of special schools whereas significant difference found among males and females of integrated schools, positive correlation of total parental support and total score of multi dimensions of functional skills was found but relationship between different variables is weak in both special and integrated schools.
