Navigating the school terrain: An experiential account

Author(s): Gagandeep Bajaj

Abstract: Private schools or ‘Public Schools’ as they are popularly known are considered beacons of hope and set the standards for ‘good education’. The research paper is based on the anecdotal and observational records of a boy with visual challenge as he navigates the uneven terrain of public school education. It represents a first-person account of the triumphs and roadblocks that characterize the daily life experiences of students with visual challenge in an urban private school. The paper ponders over questions of equity, diversity and inclusion from the perspective of the visually challenged. It seeks to provide personal insights and an experiential understanding of inclusive education from an insider’s viewpoint.
