Developing emotion vocabulary through storytelling and play in children with autism spectrum disorder

Author(s): Dr. Kwabena Akoto

Abstract: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often impairs a child's ability to recognize, understand, and express emotions, which can hinder social development. This review explores how storytelling and play can be utilized as educational tools to teach emotion vocabulary to children with ASD. The paper examines existing research on the efficacy of these methods, highlighting their potential to foster emotional literacy, and discusses the benefits of combining visual, auditory, and interactive elements to enhance learning outcomes.
